Coaching Staff

Steve Moreton
(Head Coach, Club Chairman and Co Founder of the club)
Steve Moreton started trampolining way before he thought about coaching it, the love affair which has out lasted the Dinosaurs is shear dedication and has to be respected. Steve started coaching at Ordsall recreation center a long, long, long time ago. During this time he help to found ‘The City of Salford Trampoline Club’ (as it is today), with fellow coach Tommy Curran, both of them helped create what has become in the world of trampolining this legendary club.
Steve has now coached at the highest levels for longer than even he can remember. One of his grandest achievements was helping Lee Brearley to the Olympics in Australia 2000, where despite all odds he came 6th place, which is still the highest any British Trampolinist, Male or Female has achieved at the Olympics to date.
With the help of Steve’s life time of experience and knowledge the club has achieved a great many things in the past and with our new athletes and coaching staff we all start the new journey of striving to become the next National, World, and Olympian champions, it’s no wonder things are looking bright ahead.

June Wood
Gymnastic, Trampoline, Disabilities and Movement Education Classes Coach
June has been teaching trampolining and gymnastics in Salford for over twenty years. June started coaching as a volunteer and was then employed by Salford Council to run recreational trampolining classes in the local recreation centres around Salford. June did this for many years and with great success, she introduced and helped develop so many young hopeful and talented children and sent them to the centre of excellence for trampolining and Gymnastic in Higher Broughton so they could for fill their potential, (including Lee Brearley).
June has a love for teaching children and adults with disabilities and over the years has created a very healthy working relationship with disabilities schools all around Salford. Running disabilities sessions to teach adults and children trampolining and gymnastics at the weekend and through the week June never gets tired apart from moving the equipment!
June is also the clubs Gymnastic coach and takes our gymnastic sessions throughout the week. Working to a basic standard the children are taught the basics and follow the badge scheme set out by British Gymnastic and our governing body, with some trampolining thrown in.
It won’t be long before someone calls for her to be made a Dame and the circle will then be complete, as after all, she has taught more people to trampoline than you’ve had hot dinners!

Stephen Wood
General Manager, Trampoline Coach
Stephen is an ex-trampolinist but has been in the sport all his life. Now he has been given a great opportunity to work alongside his former coach Steve Moreton. Stephen has the chance in helping children achieve their potential during their trampolining career. Currently mentoring to finish his HPC course in trampoline coaching Stephen is also looking to fast track his judging and DMT, (Double Mini Trampoline) qualifications.
Bounced at the Elite National Level and for many years he competed against the best the country and the world had to offer. Stephen is also the General Manager of the centre and spends his day split between coaching and the tedious and tiresome duty of keeping the building open.
Working with children of all ages and making them into world class athletes is what Stephen has been tasked to achieve but he also has a dark side. In 2009 Stephen started taking part in DMT (Double Mini Trampoline) events at the National level and in 2010 decided he would push on and compete at FIG B which is the second tier of competition.

Wendy Chadwick
(Trampoline HPC Coach and National Judge)
Wendy came to Salford from Altrincham trampoline club, which merged with Salford in 2008. Wendy spent many years as head coach teaching trampolining to children from all over the Altrincham area. Wendy has a talent for running competitions and has been an instrumental tool in organising the Salford and Fearns tariffs over the past few years. Wendy is current taking time out from trampoline coaching but is still a valued member of the club, Wendy still judges for the club at National level as a volunteer so that the children are able to compete. This is an invaluable role and one that the club is struggling to fill. The Club would like to thank Wendy for her continued support and help in this area and look forward to her return to coaching soon.

Andi Penny
(Trampoline Club Coach)
Andi is a Club coach and a nurse at Manchester Royal Childrens Hospital and spends his week day saving children from certain doom. At night he dons his tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt and helps children to improve their skills on a trampoline. Andi originally from Scotland has been instrumental in working with the up and coming young stars and with his good nature and positive coaching style has quickly fitted into the team. Andi does all his work with the club on a voluntary basis, proving that he truly is a reincarnation of Florence Nightingale. Without people like Andi the club would not be able to function as effectively and he has made a huge difference since joining the club.

Nick Marrage
(Trampoline Club Coach)
Nick joined the club sometime ago and is currently in the final stages of a medical degree and is set to be a Doctor at Manchester Royal. Nick trampolines and DMT’s currently for the club but has also set out his stall to take up coaching and judging when he finally hangs up his Mantard. Nick has recently sat his HPC exam and with predictability we can say that he passed with flying colours (even though we wait for confirmation). Nick is also currently our only qualified DMT coach and has spent many hour helping push our DMT programme to a higher level. Nick is also trying to fast track his judging qualifications, proving that Nick is truly a trampolinist through and through. With all the luck in the world we hope that Nick will remain at the club for as long as possible as he is an exceptional coach and a valued member of the club.

Maria Oldham
(Trampoline Club Coach)
Maria started at the club when she herself was very young, she now has a family of her own and her children are now enjoying the sport that she enjoyed when she was their age. Maria spent time competing for Salford in her youth and was a part of the squad her at the centre of excellence. Maria is currently working our Sunday recreational programme and is doing an exceptional job, working with children who could one day become the next World or even Olympic Champion. Maria is a school teacher and has qualifications to work with children with disabilities and has recently taken her first steps into becoming a judge.

Jaclyn Coleman
(Trampoline Club Physio)
Jackie has been with the club for what seems like a lifetime and has competed at National Levels herself for many years. During this time Jackie has made her way through more degrees than most people can shack a stick at and has become a fine physiotherapist, working in hospitals for the NHS and closely with rugby clubs. (I think she does that for free!) Jackie has made strong head ways into the British Gymnastic physio group and has been sent out with the DMT squad on International duties. The club is privileged to have a dedicated physio within the club to help the children through injuries and the coaches through pain and old age. Again Jackie does all this as a volunteer and has a big impact on the squad as a hole which the club truly appreciates.
The Committee
The club has a committee of nine people consisting of long standing members of the club and parents. The club hold committee meetings every month to discuss how to take the club forward and how best to keep the centre open, (not an easy job).

The Parents Group
The club also has just formed a Parents Group; this is design to help the club run certain areas more effectively. Gymnastics and Trampolining are an amateur sport and rely on the help from sponsors and the parents of the children that take part in the sport. The group will help with grants, funding, sponsors, advertising, competitions organising and lots more. The club would like to thank all the parents who take a part in helping the club move forward and improve the chance of all children from all walks of life to have the opportunity to enjoy trampolining and gymnastics. This group is not just exclusive to parents of squad children, recreational and our disability groups are all welcome to lend a helping hand.
Parents Group Chairman: Stephen Wood
Parent Group Secretary’s: Karren Wealthall and Clare Barker
These roles are to help facilitate the smooth and effective group meeting which are held each month.
